Enchanted hosts Magnolia karting

-

MANILA, Philippines - After hosting karting last week, Enchanted Kingdom will again be a venue for another motorsports spectacle with the 2009 Magnolia Health Tea Philippine Underbone King Championships taking the spotlight today at the Kart Trak EK in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The event is the second installment of the 2009 Enchanted Kingdom Motorsports Month which also features slalom and karting races.

And its notoriously short, challenging track is expected to test the skills and endurance of underbone riders competing in this event sanctioned by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA) and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Magnolia Health Tea, Aeromed, Inside Racing and Pagcor.

The expected rain will spice up the hunt for the titles at stake, including the 180cc Automatic Scooter class that boasts of a talented field of more than 10 riders.

Suzuki’s Paul Mark Doblada leads the cast as he guns for another double victory anew in the 115cc Open and the 115cc Sports Production classes.

He remains on top of the title race in both divisions tallying 144 points with teammate Johnlery Enriquez hoping to make it another 1-2 finish for Suzuki.

Not far behind are Honda rivals Herbert Lopez and Bryan “Spark” Ortile who are in third and fourth holding 108 and 102 points respectively in the 115cc Open class.

Hoping to gain his share of attention is reigning Superbikes champion Maico Buncio of Elf Moto Oil-GS Battery-YRS Racing who aims to emerge the winningest rider for the third straight time.

The 20-year-old Buncio seeks to keep solo leadership against Fil-Japanese Masato Fernando as they are separated by just one point in the 150cc Open class.

An intense showdown looms between the two top riders as Buncio holds a total of 136 points up against Fernando’s 135. Out to stop the two are Jaime Barcial, Johnlery Enriquez, Paul Mark Doblada, Noel de Mesa and Mark Barcial.

Buncio also eyes another big win over Anthony Roman, Danny Daquigan and Ivan Santiago in the 130cc Open class.

Michael Altamira also aims to keep his lead in the 115cc Super Stock class over Paolo Labador, Michael Cortez and Casey Ng.
