Forest Hills, Valley regain Fed League lead

MANILA, Philippines - Forest Hills and Valley escaped with 3-2 victories over separate rivals to regain the lead in their respective groups in the men’s Federation Golf League matches in various courses.

Forest, a two-time champion, earned its fourth win at the expense of Sherwoods to move up to 9 points, a point ahead of Highlands and Elena which both drew their matches.

Highlands was forced to a 2.5-2.5 draw by Manila Southwoods while Canlubang averted a series sweep with two long putts in greensomes and high-low to also tie Sta. Elena.

Valley also notched its fourth win like Forest at the expense of Royal Northwoods to also gain the upper hand in a looming tight race for the playoff berths.

Riviera, which became the league’s first three-time champion last year, trashed Wack Wack, 4-1, to forge a three-way tie for second with its victim and Eastridge at 7 points. Eastridge drew with Orchard.

Round 7 matches will bring Eastridge to Riviera, Orchard to Northwoods and Valley to Wack Wack. In Group 2, Forest battles Highlands, Sta. Elena meets Sherwood Hills and Canlubang fights Southwoods.

The team topping each group will make it outright to the semifinals. The next two teams in the standings will dispute the other two berths in the quarterfinal playoff duels.
