MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing had the overall crown in the bag following his big win recently in the fifth and penultimate leg of the 2009 San Mig Coffee National Drag Racing Championship-National Trophy Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
It was another career milestone for Tiu who clinched an unprecedented sixth straight Drag Racing title in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Pilipinas Shell, San Mig Coffee, Yokohama, PagCor and Aeromed.
He now holds a total of 60 points to virtually capture the overall Quick 8 plum, leaving Ed Christian Go of Blanche Racing and Pepi Santos of H3 Motorsports disputing the runner-up honors in the forthcoming championship leg at the Clark International Speedway.
In a four-way tie for fourth place are David Lim, Ed Christopher Go, John Ryzia and Walter Pazon who all hold 10 points apiece.
And with the title quest done, Tiu could look forward to breaking his current all-time fastest quarter-mile record of 9.223 seconds.
Like Tiu, Ed Christian Go and Jeannette Go also virtually copped the titles in their respective divisions.
