-

MANILA, Philippines - Clare Amelia Legaspi matched par 72 for the second straight day to grab a two-stroke lead over local bet Sierra Brookes heading into the final round of the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Florida Sunday.

Legaspi, a two-time winner of the World Championship in US Kids Golf, blew a one-under card on three birdies against two bogeys after nine holes as she fumbled with two more birdies against a birdie at the back for a 35-37 card.

With a 144 aggregate, the bespectacled Legaspi moved within 18 holes from wrapping up the girls’ 10-11 division crown although Brooks remained within striking distance with a 146 after a 73.

Brooke Henderson of Canada carded a second straight 75 for third at 150 while Abbey Carlson of Illinois stood two shots adrift at 152 after a 76.

Meanwhile, ICTSI’s Sarah Ababa recovered from a first round 75 with an even par 72-147 but remained 10 strokes off Thai Panitta Yusabai after two rounds of play in the girls’ 14-15 category.

Yusabai fired a four-under 68 for a 137 as she posted a one-shot lead over compatriot Pavarisa Yoktuan, who had a 138 after a 67.

Marie Andre Legaspi, older sister of Clare Amelia, skied to an 80 after a 72 and dropped to joint 13th at 152.
