Miami Heat coach, sports envoys hold cage clinics

MANILA, Philippines - Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra hit town yesterday for a series of clinics for out-of-school youths, amateur and pro cagers as well as coaches at various high schools and colleges in Manila and Zamboanga.

Spoelstra will be joined in the series of cage clinics by Sue Wick, former US WNBA All-Star, who is now assistant coach of the St. Francis College Terriers, and Miami Heat assistant coach David Fizdale in a visit as part of the US Department of States’ Sports Envoy Program.

The Sports Envoy Program is designed to engage the youth in discovering how success in athletics can be translated into the development of life skills and achievement in the classroom.

The RP visit will also provide the Americans the opportunity to learn about foreign cultures and the challenges young people face today in other countries.

The clinics will start tomorrow at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City starting at 2:15 p.m. with La Salle-Greenhills and San Beda hosting Spoelstra and company on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.

The Heat mentor will conduct a two-day clinic at San Andres gym in Malate on Friday and Saturday starting at 2 p.m. and 9 a.m., respectively.
