Folayang dominates Guam foe in URCC

-

MANILA, Philippines - Two-time SEA Games champion Eduard Folayang fashioned out an emphatic victory over Guam’s AJ Aguon in the “Superfight” of the Colt 45 URCC XIV dubbed as “Aggression” at the packed A. Venue Events Hall in Makati last Sunday.

Using solid striking and superior ground skills, Folayang unleashed heavy blows on Aguon’s face to easily win the fight before some 4,000 roaring fans.

Folayang, a wushu champion (sanshou, 70kgs) who also won a silver medal in the 2006 Doha Asian Games, bucked a cut under his left eyebrow midway in the second and last 10-minute bout and went on to dominate Aguon.

The win was the fifth for the 24-year-old Folayang since joining the fast-growing mixed martial arts event through the initiative of URCC president Alvin Aguilar.

“I really prepared hard for this fight, and I think my high-altitude training was a big factor in my win,” said Folayang, hoping to bag a berth in the RP team competing in the Laos SEA Games.

The win came on the heels of Folayang’s technical knockout (TKO) victory over Marianas Elite’s Jerome Norita in Saipan four months ago.

It was Aguon’s first setback in four fights.

Also pulling off a win in the event presented by Colt 45 Premium Strong Beer and supported by Alaxan FR and E-games was Caloy Baduria, who beat Cuban Remand Lazaro for the light heavyweight title.

Baduria, leaning on his heavy punches, won via “verbal” submission after Lazaro refused to come out of his corner that earned him the ire of the fans in the event backed by SEAIR, Chris sports, TRX, Bulls Gloves, Padi’s Point, Yoshinoya, VRP Medical Center and Tribal Gear.

Other winners in the tournament were DEFTAC fighter Reggie Amarante, who won against Raymond Carlos and Bacolod’s Jey Lumawag, who scored a TKO win over Joel Taon of Ultimate Kampilan Yaw-Yan.

Other winners were Eric Kelly of Yaw-Yan, Hybrid Yaw-yan’s Vicente Pajaro, Lakay Wushu’s Erwin Focad and Charles de Tomas of D’elements.
