BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania – Na Yeon Choi of South Korea has dropped from the lead at the US Women’s Open, leaving late starters Lorena Ochoa, Cristie Kerr and Jean Reynolds atop the leaderboard early in the second round.
Choi shot a 3-over 74 Friday for a two-round total of even-par 142 – a score that still might lead the championship at the end of the day at difficult Saucon Valley Country Club.
Florida teenager Alexis Thompson is in position to make the cut for the first time in three tries. The 14-year-old amateur followed her even-par opening round with a 73 for a 2-over total.
In 2007, Thompson became the youngest player to qualify for the tournament.
The field will be cut to the 60 lowest scores and ties, and any player within 10 shots of the lead, after 36 holes. (AP)
