MANILA, Philippines – The Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship resumes today with the staging of the second leg in Tuguegarao with 500 players expected to vie for top honors in two divisions at the Paseo Reale’s function hall at Rizal cor. Aguinaldo Sts. in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
The event ending tomorrow serves as the Northern Luzon elims of a seven-stage nationwide circuit featuring the kiddies (14-and-under) and juniors (20-and-under) divisions.
The top three finishers in both categories after the seven-round Swiss system tournament will advance to the national finals slated in October in Manila.
Pilipinas Shell sponsors the annual Shell Active Chess championships, in support of youth as part of the company’s overall Sustainable Development commitment. The circuit kicked off last weekend with the NCR elims at the SM Mall of Asia.
Batangas will host the third leg of the nation’s longest running, grassroots-based chess tournament on July 18-19 for the Southern Luzon elims, while Naga City will stage the Southern Luzon qualifier on Aug. 1-2.
