Buncio reigns supreme anew
MANILA, Philippines – Reigning Superbikes champion Maico Buncio of Elf-Moto YRS Team bagged four trophies recently in the 2009 BRC Superbikes Series and the 2009 Magnolia Health Tea Philippine Underbone King Championships at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
Buncio, 20, not only pulled off a sweep in the Superbikes Series but also posted a new track record time of 1:38.587 seconds with the big support of Elf-Moto Oil, Motoworld, Denso Spark Plugs, Dunlop Japan, BPI Savings Bank, Accel, Fast Lane and YRS Motorcycle Modifications.
The win firmed up Buncio’s bid for a three-peat with 97 points, six up on archrival Glenn Aguilar.
Buncio controlled the lead coast-to-coast as he wrapped up the 10-lap first race in 16: 38.388, or 16.567 seconds over Aguilar.
Aguilar tried to bounce back in the afternoon race as he dictated the tempo at the start. But Buncio quickly wrested the lead on the next lap and pulled away for the win in 16:31.33 or 9.697 seconds ahead of Aguilar.
Aside from his two Superbikes trophies, Buncio captured the 130cc Open over Danny Daquigan and the 150cc. Open over Jaime Barcial and third placer Johnlery Enriquez.
“I had to give my very best that day because I did not want to disappoint my supporters who travelled from Manila, Cavite and some of my friends from Bicol just to support me,” said Buncio.
He was referring to a group of 22 motorcycle Cavite riders called the Golden Boys Motorcycle Club who surprised Maico that day wearing T-shirts with Maico’s thumbs up antics printed on it.
