San Andres sweeps Supercross night races
MANILA, Philippines – Multi-titled Kenneth San Andres dominated the field and scored yet another four-race sweep of both the premier Pro Open and 125 divisions in the first ever night races of the 2009 Supercross Series (fifth leg) at the Speedworld Supercross Track at the SM City in Bicutan.
San Andres swept both two heats of the Pro Open and Pro 125 to further build on his lead in the series held under the auspices of the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA).
In sweeping the premier Pro Open, San Andres was all business in the two heats, turning back the challenge of a new set of rivals Dondon Yuson (second), JC Rellosa (third), Windsor Pamorca (fourth) and Jonjon Antonio (fifth), and pulling away from the chasing pack by as much as half a lap.
But while his Pro Open wins were his most dominant, San Andres’ most exciting triumph came in the first heat of the Pro 125, where he suffered a spill barely half a lap into the race.
The Philippine Sportswriters Association’s top awardee for motocross last year, however, picked himself up and chased the field from behind, overtaking one rider after another before pulling off yet another half-a-lap victory minutes later.
San Andres went on to sweep the two races of the Pro Open, shoving behind Yuson (2nd), Rellosa (3rd), Jenzen Manuel (4th) and Bornok Mangosong (5th)
