Guiao, 3 players face PBA sanctions
MANILA, Philippines – PBA commissioner Sonny Barrios is likely to impose sanctions on a coach and three players in the aftermath of a series of technical infractions in the Final Four duels in the Motolite PBA Fiesta Conference Sunday.
Barrios yesterday summoned BK coach Yeng Guiao, San Miguel forward Wesley Gonzales and Ginebra guard-forward Cyrus Baguio to shed light on the violations they incurred during their respective matches.
Mark Yee was also invited to appear at the PBA office yesterday but the BK forward had asked that the meeting be reset for today.
Barrios is expected to hand his decisions after meeting with Yee.
Guiao was called for a technical foul for vehemently protesting a referee’s call in their highly emotional and highly physical game against San Miguel Beer. The Beermen prevailed, 100-88, to take a 2-1 lead in their series.
After the match, Guiao even waited in the hallway leading to the dugouts and confronted the two referees.
Yee was summoned for a flagrant foul resulting to a cut on Gonzales’ forehead. Gonzales later tried to get even with the BK player.
Baguio is facing sanction for a flagrant foul penalty 2 infraction on “landing spot” rule versus Ryan Arana.
The prolific Ginebra guard-forward had been carrying the cudgels for the Kings before being thrown out of the game for that infraction with still nine minutes left to play.
