Syrinx extends win run, rules Atienza race

-

MANILA, Philippines - Outstanding favorite Syrinx streaked to her ninth straight career victory in another easy fashion, cruising to a three-length victory over Traditional to top the Sec. Lito Atienza Grand Championship, the highlight of the Karera Para Sa Kalikasan Part 2 at the San Lazaro Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite yesterday.

The unbeaten imported horse by Hold That Tiger and Shawaatee shrugged the early pressure from Traditional and Lim Expensive Toys, racing away with a great run at the far turn that her rivals failed to match en route to the victory.

Syrinx, expertly handled by jockey Jesse Guce, timed two minutes flat over the 1,900m distance with fraction times of 19, 24, 25-1/1, 24 and 27-1/2 seconds.

Third favorite Traditional took the runner-up honors while Lim Expensive Toys settled for third.

Pressed on by Traditional and Lim Expensive Toys in the early going, Syrinx quickly responded from the urgings of Guce and started to speed away as they hit the half-mile post mark.

Syrinx was way ahead in no time, building a six-length lead as she turned for home before cruising to the victory despite Traditional’s mighty run in the stretch.

The victory was worth P420,000 for Syrinx, whose previous victory in the big-time racing came a few months ago when she beat virtually the same field in the Pearl Stakes 1.

Negligee finished fourth while Australian Cat placed last in the all-import event, the biggest in the 12-day program held under the auspices of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
