Doblada targets underbone repeat
MANILA, Philippines – The country’s top riders and manufacturers battle for supremacy anew as the 2009 Magnolia Health Tea Philippine Underbone King Championships stages its second leg today at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
Suzuki looks forward to another dominating feat behind Paul Mark Doblada in this event sanctioned by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA) and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Magnolia Health Tea, Aeromed, Inside Racing and PAGCOR.
Doblada scored a double victory ruling both the 115cc Open and the 115cc Sports Production classes in the kickoff leg last April.
Honda likewise eyes a much-improved performance behind last leg’s runner-up Herbert Lopez and third placer Bryan “Spark” Ortile who will try to stop Doblada in the 115cc Open.
Also favored in other divisions are Fil-Japanese Masato Fernando and Paolo Labador.
Fernando guns for his second straight triumph in the 150cc Open over highly favored Maico Buncio while Labador aims for a repeat over Michael Cortez and Michael Altamira in the 115cc Super Stock.
Equally exciting is the rivalry between Buncio of Elf-Yamaha-YRS Racing and Glenn Aguilar of Yellowcab-Ducati-Access Plus as they dispute solo leadership in the BRC Superbikes Series after splitting honors in the season opener.
Another rider to watch is Dashi Watanabe of Watanabe Racing Team.
who uncorked an impressive third place finish in his Superbikes debut aside from clinching the Superbikes Novice crown over Ryan Medina and fellow newcomer Raniel Resuello.
Joining them are Ryan Medina, John Defensor, Jayson Maligaya, George Gerard, Danes Sarmiento, Barney Buncio, Julian Goitia, El Peralta, Carlo Villanueva and Toti Alberto of Yellowcab-Ducati-Access Plus who’s seeking another win in the Superbikes Masters and Motard classes over Jayson Maligaya and George Gerard.
Also favored are Aries Padiernos in the 400 cc Expert and Victor Laude of Tiger Motorcycle in 400 cc Novice division.
