Nomads seeks touch rugby gold

-

MANILA, Philippines – The Nomads Bulletes ladies team vows to bring home the gold when it competes in the sixth Asian Club Touch Championships in Bangkok next week.

Bannered by co-team captain Lala Lejeume and Clair Barberis, the 27-member team will be seeing action in the meet set June 20-21.

After bagging runner-up honor in their first stint in the tournament two years ago in Pattaya, the Filipinas said they are ready to win the gold this time.

“Our goal is to bring home the gold,” said Barberis, who was with the rest of the Nomads Bulletes team and coach Rey Gigataras in the weekly PSA Forum at the Shakey’s UN Avenue branch Tuesday.

The Filipinas will be up against six teams from Bangkok and Singapore. Overall, however, a total of 50 teams from 10 countries are entered in the meet as they vie in the men, women’s mixed and masters categories, respectively.

Touch rugby is a fast-rising field sport with minimal contact, according to Lejeume.
