Beermen, Kings wary of long lull

- Joey Villar, Nelson Beltran -

MANILA, Philippines – Coaches of San Miguel Beer and Barangay Ginebra are concerned over their respective charges competitive form after enjoying a long break as a result of automatic seeding in the Motolite PBA Fiesta Cup Final Four.

San Miguel takes on Burger King while Ginebra tangles with Rain or Shine in separate best-of-seven semifinal showdowns starting with Game One tomorrow at the Araneta Coliseum.

“I’m sure we’re in shape. The question is whether we’re in game-condition. The boys might have been a bit rusty,” said Ginebra coach Jong Uichico. “And if the guys do become rusty, hopefully we’re able to shake it off right in the first half. Game One is important in a series.”

San Miguel coach Siot Tanquingcen said they’re well aware of going through a long layoff that’s why they have been exerting efforts to keep their competitive form.

“Actually, I don’t want to think about that. That’s the format, that’s the situation we’re in, and we just did everything to be ready for our comeback. I believe we have covered everything that needed to be covered,” said Tanquingcen.
