PTAA charity run unwraps tomorrow

MANILA, Philippines – The University of the Philippines (UP) Sigma Delta Phi Sorority will join the first Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA) Charity Run firing off tomorrow at the UP Diliman grounds.

Proceeds of the fund-raising event, dubbed “Run, Run for Children’s Fun,” will be used to restore the East Avenue Medical Center’s Playroom for Pediatric Cancer Patients.

The 76-year old student organization, the oldest sorority in Southeast Asia, is expected to field in entries from its Diliman Chapter to compete in the event, which features the 3K, 5K, and 10K runs.

The UP Sigma Delta Phi Sorority Diliman Chapter had supported the Kythe Foundation through its “Bigger Than Ourselves” project while its Los Baños Chapter has staged a fashion show for the benefit of the Philippine Breast Cancer Network.

The student organization has also supported efforts on social awareness, community building, and caring for the environment over the years.

Meanwhile, the first PTAA Charity has been selected as the springboard of the Lance Armstrong Foundation in Asia. The foundation, which seeks to unite people worldwide to fight cancer, will be providing all runners with the Livestrong Wristbands - the symbol of its campaign.

The PTAA is expecting more than a thousand runners from tourism related companies and organizations, Metro Manila schools, and charitable foundations during Sunday’s charity run.
