Castro, Talosig snare Seniors masters titles

MANILA, Philippines – PTBA’s Audi Castro and PBA’s Carmen Talosig bagged the men’s and ladies’ Seniors Masters crowns in the 38th Philippine International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships at Paeng’s Midtown Bowl at the Robinson’s Place in Malate, Manila late Tuesday.

Except for a 166 in the third game, Castro dished out a steady game en route to a 10-game series of 2,228 as he annexed the men’s seniors title.

Castro earned the top prize of P25,000, ahead of PBA’s Danny Tuazon (2,080) while LCTBA’s Egay Latag (2,055) took third.

On the other hand, Talosig representing the Pasig Bowling Association, bowled a 10-game series of 1,928 in copping the ladies Seniors title. She took home P20,000.

Perla Pacheco of ITBA-Imus scored 1,849 to take second spot while PBA’s Mila Robles finished third with a 1,842 total in the event sponsored by the University of Perpetual Help System, Department of Tourism, Amway Philippines, the Philippine Sports Commission Chowking, Colgate-Palmolive, The City Bowling Shop, USAct, Pearl Garden Hotel, Nestle Philippines, Paeng’s Midtown Bowl, Goldbridge Dental Services and Pan Pacific Manila, the tournament’s official hotel.

BTA-Prima’s Jomar Jumapao topped the men’s Class O singles competitions with a three-game series of 747 after shooting lines of 231, 290 and 266. Jumapao now leads national players Richie Poblete (734) and Biboy Rivera (728) by 13 and 19 pins, respectively.

Current Asian No. 1 Hussain Al Suwaidi of UAE wrested the lead in the men’s Class O all-events contest after tallying 1,557 on the combined scores of his singles (707), doubles (402) and trios (427) performance. TBAM-Prima-BX’s Jerht Santos, who scored the first perfect game of 300 last Sunday, slid to second place (1,508) while TBAM-Prima-RP’s Chester King dropped to third (1,557).

Making its move in the men’s Class O trios was the crack Kuwaiti triumvirate of Basel Alanzi, Fahad Al Ragheeb and Yaqoub Al-Shatti, who joined hands in scoring rolling 1,323 good for second place just 10 pins behind the pacesetting RP team troika of King, Raoul Miranda and Frederick Ong at 1,333. TBAM-Prima’s grizzled campaigners Bonnie Ayson, Marc Serac and Bonnie Solis were in third place with a 1,279 card.
