Rains wash out baseball games
MANILA, Philippines – Rains rendered the Rizal Memorial baseball field unplayable, forcing the organizing Community Sports Inc. to cancel today’s scheduled games in Baseball Philippines’ Series 5.
The Cebu-Dumaguete, originally set at 7:30 a.m. today, will instead be played tomorrow, weather-permitting.
The Dolphins are hoping to stay in the hunt for the outright semifinal berth.
The Dolphins are actually coming off a three-game skid but remain upbeat of their chances to score a repeat of their 17-7 victory over the Uni-Bikers last April 26. Gametime is at 7:30 a.m.
Miggy Corcuera, Nico and Sebastian Uichico are expected to lead the Dolphins bid in the absence of national team members Joseph Orillana, Fongs Rances and Jonash Ponce, who were indefinitely suspended by the organizing Community Sports Inc. for their failure to play two weeks ago.
Dumaguete, which likewise lost suspended players Darwin dela Calzada, Andro Cuyugan and Edmer del Socorro, will lean on veterans Bambol Servo, Kelly Culubong, Marlon Caspillo and Kiko Ramos.
A victory by Cebu will set the Dolphins against the Manila Sharks at resumption of their suspended game last May 10 when both teams battled to a 9-all count before it was halted after 11 innings.
