Cagayan IX blanks Quezon City

-

MANILA, Philippines – Early finalists Cagayan crushed winless Quezon City, 10-0, in Junior Baseball Philippines action at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium yesterday.

The Carabaos dismantled the hapless Angels with an eight-run binge in the first inning behind run-scoring hits from Arvin Plaza, Nelson Salazar and pitchers Aries Oruga and Bryan Lumbres.

Oruga and Lumbres combined with reliever Kevin dela Cruz in holding Quezon City to just four hits in a game that was stopped after five innings by the 10-run mercy rule.

Cagayan, bannered by players from Batangas, remained unbeaten after five games and would need another win over the Angels today to end the elimination round with a perfect 6-0 record. They will meet either the Alabang Tigers or the Marikina Indians. Both squads were playing at presstime.

In Baseball Philippines, the game between the Cebu Dolphins and the Dumaguete Unibikers was postponed for today because of the inclement weather.
