MANILA, Philippines – Team Banal, bannered by San Juan Mayor JV Ejercito (Batch 87) and Terence Tang (98), put on a mighty show in the second half to beat Team Yeo, 87-73, and rule the recent Mighty Sports-Xavier Alumni Thursday Open tournament at the Jacinto Tiu gym of the Xavier School Sports Center in San Juan.
Bon Syiaco (03) finished with 17 points most of them were produced in the second half to help Team Banal rip the game wide apart in a performance that won him the Finals MVP award.
The tournament, which provided parity to all participating teams to ensure a balanced and exciting competition and sponsored by Mighty Sports and Gerry’s Grill, lured more teams this time as they prepare for the annual Xavier Alumni basketball tournament.
Other members of the team are Eldridge Liao (98), Jermaine Tee (02), Caesar Angelo Wongchuking Jr. (11), Philip Young (05), Donnel Ong (99), Kenneth Ongson (02), Karl Chua (05), Raymond Lee (01), Kelly Chua (99), Grech Go (96), and Howard Chang (06).
Team Yao’s Paul Chua (03) was named tournament MVP with Philmon Yao (06) of Team Alabanza winning the Newcomer of the Year and Royd Tan of Team Yeo clinching the Defensive Player of the Year.
The event, according to commissioner Brian Brenton Chua, achieved its goal in introducing players from different batches through the drafting process.
