MANILA, Philippines – To start off the Women in Sports program in the countryside, Philippine Sports Commissioner Akiko Thomson and City Mayor Fernando Miguel organized a 3k and 5k marathon, badminton and volleyball tournaments and sports clinics in Koronadal City (formerly Marbel), South Cotabato May 11 15.
“The PSC national program for women is brought to Mindanao as a vehicle for peace. Through our activities, we hope to reach out to women of all ages whose impassioned participation continues to inspire other sectors to utilize sports in empowerment and values formation,” said Thomson.
Veteran coaches Judith Brosula of badminton, Elma Muros-Posadas and Jojo Posada of athletics, Emilio Rafols of swimming and Sergio Isada of volleyball conducted the clinics.
Next stop will be Saranggani where competitions will be held in basketball, volleyball, taekwondo, table tennis and badminton. There will also be women’s 3k and 5k marathon. Clinics for basketball, volleyball and badminton will be conducted by top coaches.
