Letran storms past DLS Zobel in FCBL

MANILA, Philippines - Letran regained its winning ways, crushing De La Salle Zobel, 97-89, in the TriDharma Mktg. Corp Filipino-Chinese Basketball League second Freego Jeans’ Cup at the Buddhacare Gym near Araneta Ave. in Quezon City recently.

Jerelan Tampus fired a game-high 31 points to lead the Squires to their third win against two losses in the tournament backed by Energen Cereal Energy Drink, Hi-Smart Vitamins and Nutri-C Juice.

Glen Khobuntin added 23 for Letran, which stayed in the race for the semis spot of the high school cagefest supported by f’g Revolution Denim, Dickies Underwear, Old Chinatown Koptitiam, Clincher Packaging Tape, Nougat Candy, Colt Commercial, Powerbest Marketing Inc. and Star Galaxy Industrial Fabricator Inc.

Gwayne Capacio and Luigi dela Paz led the Junior Archers with 25 and 22 points, respectively, as their team dropped to 3-2. Tampus was named Hi-Smart Player of the Game.

San Beda College took solo second spot with a 97-48 win over University of Santo Tomas. The Red Cubs, who were led by 18 points of Dave Moralde, improved to 5-1, a game behind league-leading Ateneo (6-0).

Far Eastern U ended a five-game losing skid with an 85-66 rout of Chiang Kai Shek College.
