LWUA, Army win MBT-Women's Basketball League opener
MANILA, Philippines - Local Water Utilities Administration and Team Army of Gen. Charlie Holganza downed their respective rivals to open their bid in the MBT-Women’s Basketball League at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City last Sunday.
Nikki Leonardo and Juvelyn Andaya combined for 19 points as UST-LWUA outsteadied Lyceum-H2Club while the Charlie’s Angels of Team Army, Dulce Bombeo, Legiel Ortencio and Kat Garcia, outplayed National U, 64-57.
Bombeo sizzled with 15 points while Ortencio and Garcia combined for 24 points.
In other games, Pharex downed College of St. Benilde; FEU-Burlington waylaid PMI-H2Club, 53-43; Adamson-Express Bank nipped Ever Bilena, 71-63; and PCCr-Wilson outclassed RP Youth, 57-39.
Now on its fifth league, the elite division of the MBT-Women’s League under commmissioner Nilo Fernandez is backed by LWUA chairman Butch Pichay and Rizal Gov. Jun Ynares III of Rizal and sponsored by Burlington, Express Bank, Wilson, Careline Pilipinas, Ever Bilena and Molten, the official ball of MBT.
