MANILA, Philippines – Foremost billiards patron Sen. Manny Villar will induct the new officers of the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) in simple ceremonies tonight at the Villa Paciencia mansion on Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City.
Villar, recipient of the PSA President’s Award for meritorious contributions to the propagation of billiards across the country during the sportswriting fraternity’s awards night last February, is also expected to share his vision for unity in local sports, which has been wracked in recent months by disputes.
The new officers of the country’s oldest media organization is led by president Teddyvic Melendres, sports editor of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
The other officers are Rey Bancod of Tempo, first vice president; Jun Lomibao of Daily Mirror, second vice president; Joe S. Antonio, treasurer; Riera Mallari, secretary; Gerry Ramos, assistant secretary and deputy chief of Sports Forum operations; Tito Deblois of Abante, auditor.
Also to be inducted are the members of the PSA board, including Ding Marcelo of the Manila Bulletin, Lito Tacujan of The Philippine Star, Aldrin Cardona of Daily Tribune, Jimmy Cantor of Malaya, Recah Trinidad and Ernie Gonzales of Inquirer and Al Mendoza of Abante.
