Tiu guns for two wins in San Mig Coffee dragfest

-

MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Jonathan Tiu faces the tough task of picking up two wins to preserve his leadership as the 2009 San Mig Coffee National Drag Racing Championship-National Trophy Series resumes this Saturday, at the Clark International Speedway.

Tiu has to see action in last month’s postponed race due to heavy rain and race anew for the fourth leg of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Pilipinas Shell, San Mig Coffee, Yokohama and Aeromed.

But that ordeal will be too taxing for his Mitsubishi Evo 5 and will put his engine and car set-up to a big test.

However, the rewards will be high if he survives the races as the two wins will put him way ahead in the race for the coveted Drag Racing Driver of the Year.

Tiu is looking forward to his sixth straight crown and his second this season after clinching the Pagcor Sports Drag Racing Championship Northern Series plum early this season.

He currently holds 30 points in the Quick 8 division, enjoying a 20-point advantage over David Lim of DGL Motorsports and Ed Christopher Go who are in second with 10 points each.

Apart from winning, spectators are looking forward for another record-breaking feat from Tiu who currently holds the Clark International Speedway all-time fastest quarter-mile record of 9.223 seconds.

“If opportunity allows, we’ll try to go for the record-breaking win. Our priority is to win and we have to preserve the engine for Round 4. We’ll see how it all goes,” said Tiu.
