Big field up in world slasher

MANILA, Philippines - The 2009 World Slasher Cup stages the last half of its bi-annual event beginning tomorrow with a record local and international field expected to participate at the Araneta Coliseum.

Hosted by the Pintakasi of Champions and sponsored by Thunderbird Bexan-XP and Sagupaan Complexor 3000, the three-day event organized by Araneta Center features entries from top sportsmen from the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Guam, Hawaii, and Germany and the country’s top local game fowl breeders.

The other derby dates are on May 14 and 16.

The World Slasher Cup, which started in 1969, regularly draws over 10,000 derby aficionados who want to watch the top breeders from the Philippines and the US fight their best cocks.

“We have elevated cockfighting to the level of importance that it deserves. Winning this event is like being champion of the world,” said Jorge Araneta.
