MANILA, Philippines - Two-time Hillclimb champion Carlos Anton stamped his class anew in the second leg of the 2009 Hillclimb Championship Series by winning both stages in style aboard his Mark Young-Yokohama prepared CRX in Bauang, La Union.
Anton blazed thru the two stages leaving everybody in his trail and clocking over three seconds faster than second placer Jason Dipasupil of Special Stage racing team.
Jem Quirimit of Baguio placed third overall, beating 2008 Rallysprint champion Carlo Garcia, who finished fourth.
Alfie Concepcion and Dennis Aoyong of Yokohama Total-Hornitex team wrapped up the top six positions in a field of over 55 racers from all over the country.
“This race was so challenging because it was raining in the first stage and it was so hard to put the power down,” Anton said of the stage, which saw Nicole Dipasupil spin out meters before the flying finish.
Anton is comfortably ahead in the race for the overall crown, while in Group 3, a tight fight is brewing between Aoyong and Jason Dipasupil. In Group 2 Lance Binamira still leads over Julius Querimit while Jojo Quirimit leads Group 1 over Mark Toman and Gary Loy.
