Ateneo, AdU, FEU seek playoff for quarters slots

-

MANILA, Philippines – Adamson and Far Eastern U collide today in a duel of title contenders with no less than a playoff for the second quarterfinal berth at stake in the sixth Shakey’s V-League at the Blue Eagle gym in Ateneo.

Tied for third with 3-1 slates, the defending champions Lady Falcons and the Lady Tams mix it up in the 4 p.m. game expected to be a toss-up between the league’s top offensive teams.

The winner joins San Sebastian in second and secures a shot for the last quarterfinal slot in the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Sports Vision.

Three-time champion UST clinched the first quarterfinal berth with a tough four-set win over ousted Lyceum last Thursday with SSC, Adamson, FEU and Ateneo-OraCare fighting it out for the three other seats.

The Lady Eagles, in fifth with a 3-2 card, try to stay in the hunt as they take on winless UP Lady Maroons in a clash of Katipunan-based squads at 6 p.m.

Ateneo is heavily fancied to get past UP as it primes up for a crucial game against FEU Thursday at the close of the single round elims in the league backed by Accel, Mikasa and OraCare. For updates, log on to www.v-league.ph.

The Lady Tams have the toughest assignments among the contenders since they will still face the Lady Stags on Tuesday in the same day the defending champion Falcons will play the also-ran Lady Pirates.
