PJ subdues Casey for place in semis

MANILA, Philippines - Top seed and men’s singles No.1 Patrick John Tierro turned back reigning No.1 junior player Francis Casey Alcantara, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1), to reach the semifinal round of the Cebuana Lhuillier Tennis Circuit at the Baseline Tennis Center in Cebu yesterday.

Tierro recovered from an opening set setback by dominating the second set then outlasted his youthful rival in the decider to complete the come-from-behind victory before an appreciative crowd.

The 22-year-old Tierro will face Elbert Anasta for a spot in the finals today.

The fifth-ranked Anasta fashioned out a 7-6, 6-3 win over Ronard Joven in the other quarterfinal duel.
