Gaddi pulls off Mini-ROK karting sweep
MANILA, Philippines - Christian Gaddi of the JeT Racing Team proved he can win the Mini-Rok Class of the 2009 Magnolia Super Karting Series in close finish or runaway fashion as he ruled the nine-karter pre-final and final races at the Batangas Racing Circuit recently.
Gaddi, one of the country’s up-and-coming young karters, swept both races of the Mini-Rok class to pull away in his class in the series.
In the pre-final race, Gaddi experimented driving inside and the outer lanes of the track, while dicing with his chief rival Kali Carcel, topping the race by only .027 of a second ahead of Carcel.
“I sort of experimented driving in and out of the lane. Luckily I still won despite the risks I took,” said Gaddi, who is backed by Bingo Bonanza Corp., Industria and Birel.
Gaddi then went all out in the eight-lap final run, leading from start to finish. He clocked 11:34.007 for a big 8.028-second win over Carcel.
The two-time Golden Wheel Awardee for Cadet Karter of the Year also registered the fastest time of 1:28.802 in the eighth lap of the final race.
“I was so focused in the final race that I really went out of my way to win, and the result was very satisfying,” said Gaddi.
He promised to prepare hard for the third leg of the series to be held at the Cebu Kart Zone next month.
“Despite the limited time to prepare and practice, I was still able to extend my winning streak, thanks to the support of my JeT Racing Team, my school and my parents, my tuner/mechanic Omel, and especially my mom Teena, who has always been very supportive of my young racing career,” said the 10-year-old Gaddi, an incoming Grade 4 student of Claret School in Quezon City.
