De Guzman, Nallos capture jungolf leg

MANILA, Philippines - Regina de Guzman coasted to an easy victory in the girls division while Alexes Nallos pulled off an upset win in the boys side of the Class A competitions in the second leg of the Jungolf Summer Circuit presented by Philippine Airlines at the Mt. Malarayat Golf and Country Club in Lipa, Batangas recently.

De Guzman prevailed by 28 strokes over Nicole Serapio despite a closing 81 for a 227 aggregate, earning her second straight victory after a similarly impressive win in the Interclub two weeks ago at the Orchard.

Nallos held off a charging Jobim Carlos with a 74 to win by two with a 226 aggregate. Five down at the start of the final round, Carlos rallied with a 71 but fell short by two shots with a 228.

Bino dela Paz (73-226) produced a seven-shot win in boys Class B, the same age-group where Andie Unson nipped Daniella Uy in a sudden-death playoff after both finished at 237.

Rupert Zaragosa easily clinched the Class C plum over Sebastian Lorenzo while Corrine Abalos was unchallenged in the girls side. Class D titles were won by Jaime Oposa and Kirke Ang and girls Class F went to Annika Tanoue.

The circuit, backed by Diamond Motors Corp., Club Marinduque, Unilever, Ottica Corp.,/Fury, Callaway/ Electrobus, Goin Straight, Golf Depot and Aces Agri Manufacturing Corp., moves to Sherwood Hills for the first half of a grueling 108-hole qualifier for the Callaway Junior World championships starting Monday with the division winners earning free tickets to Los Angeles, California from Philippine Airlines.
