Orduna shocks seasoned riders in Magnolia karting

-

ROSARIO, Batangas , Philippines  – Joey Orduna of Ready2Race outclassed veteran rivals as he ruled the second leg of the 2009 Magnolia Super Karting Series recently at the Batangas Racing Circuit here.

The 13-year-old Orduna, last year’s Asian ROK Junior champion, turned back ROK Overall karters in the combined race to capture the title in the ROK Junior class of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Magnolia, San Miguel Corporation, Palmer Asia Inc. – The Fire and Security Expert, Motorstar and Aeromed.

He clocked eight minutes and 54.292 seconds in the seven-lap race to prevail over Andres Calma and third placer Roby Benito.

Orduna checked in 0.8 of a second ahead of Ready2Race teammate Juha Turalba who eventually bagged the win in the ROK Overall division over runner-up John Alvarez of Maranello-San Miguel-Corporation-Marcelo Racing and third placer Bobby Domingo of AUTS Racing.

Orduna mixed it up with Benito and Alvarez during the first three laps. Alvarez wrested the lead on the fourth lap but Orduna got back on top at the hairpin and started to pull away from thereon.

Turalba also managed to edge past Alvarez but his effort was not enough to grab the lead from Orduna who displayed impressive defense driving to keep his post to the finish.

Domingo, on the other hand, made his mark in the Formula SL Expert class where he turned back AUTS Racing teammates Joseph Castelar and Indy Villalon.
