Que begins quest for British Open return stint

-

MANILA, Philippines - Angelo Que opens his bid for a second straight British Open stint as he joins 63 other aspirants in today’s start of the 36-hole Final Qualifying-Asia at the Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong course in Singapore.

Que earned a spot in last year’s staging of one of the world’s four majors by finishing fourth, nipping Japan’s Tomohiro Kondo for the last spot. But he made an early exit at Royal Birkdale with 76 and 78 rounds, missing the cut by five shots.

This time, the 30-year-old long-hitting Filipino hopes to sustain the momentum of his big finish in last week’s Black Mountain Masters where he rallied to gain a joint eighth finish in Thailand.

Que, the reigning Philippine Open champion, tees off at 9:10 a.m. in the company of Jbe Kruger and Young Nam.

Two other Filipinos – Artemio Murakami and Mars Pucay – are joining the hunt for the four Open berths.

Murakami starts at 8:10 a.m. with Tony Carolan while Pucay goes up against Atthapon Prathommannee and Yoshimobu Tsukada in the 8:50 a.m. flight.
