PNSA revives metallic silhouette shootfest

-

MANILA, Philippines - A rare shooting event called metallic silhouette will be staged by the Philippine National Shooting Association May 10 at the PNSA/Marines range in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

It will be the third time the national body headed by two-time Olympian Art Macapagal is holding a competition in silhouette shooting which has been around here since the early 70s but promoted only by a few private clubs. The last PNSA event was held 27 years ago.

More than 100 shooters from various Metro Manila clubs and the provinces are expected to vie for honors.

What makes the discipline different from the usual shooting competitions is that metallic silhouettes of animals like boars, turkeys, rams and chickens will be used as targets.

Club teams from San Fernando and Arayat (Pampanga), Valenzuela (Bulacan), Makati, Pasig, Marikina, Antipolo, Taytay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Quezon City, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon, Daet and Naga (Camerines Sur), Ateneo and University of the Philippines are expected to be represented.

“The sport actually originated in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution. During those days, they used live chickens, boars, turkeys and rams as targets,” explained Macapagal. “Now, the event is gaining popularity worldwide.”

Interested parties may call up Richard Fernandez at 0920-9009897 or the PNSA office at 636-0635 for more details.
