Equestrian polls postponement hit

MANILA, Philippines - There’s also trouble brewing within the Equestrian Association of the Philippines headed by Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose Cojuangco.

Carissa Coscolluela, EAP director and party list representative, yesterday questioned the postponement of the March 31 EAP elections where she had planned to run for president.

Coscolluela said Vittorio Barba of the EAP membership committee last Sunday announced the holding of the elections at Cojuangco’s residence in Dasmariñas, Makati.

Coscolluela claimed Cojuangco even asked the POC to send a representative to the March 31 exercise, but the former sought a neutral venue.

“I wrote Mr. Cojuangco that since he is a candidate and incumbent EAP president it would be inappropriate and unethical to hold the elections in his residence,” she said.

It was supposed to be the first elections and general assembly among EAP members since its incorporation in 2006. But it is now off.

“Our lawyer advised us that our by laws do not call for an election at this time. Two other lawyers when consulted also had the same view,” said Cojuangco yesterday.

Cojuangco added that the elections, based on the amended by-laws of the EAP, should be held in 2012.
