Quezon, Iloilo, Laguna claim Liga second wins
MANILA, Philippines - Robert Labagala took charge in the third quarter while Ramsey Williams posted a triple-double job to lift the visiting Quezon Red Oilers over the host Harbour Centre-Taguig Batang Global, 93-80, in the Taguig City leg of the 2009 Smart Liga Pilipinas Conference II at the C. P. Tinga Memorial Hall in Taguig last Thursday.
Over at the Pototan Astrodome in Pototan, Iloilo, the host Mang Inasals and Trace-Laguna Stallions booked a date for tonight’s Iloilo leg championship by their respective rivals for their second straight wins.
Iloilo survived the visiting Manila squad, 104-98, while the league-leading Trace Laguna squad used a strong second half charge to bury the Zamboanga Zambos, 96-64.
Labagala scored all of his 13 points in the third period as the Red Oilers pulled away from a slim three-point lead at halftime, 38-35, to a 66-54 lead entering the final quarter. Jorel Canizares then came through with a barrage of triples and Williams gave the Red Oilers their biggest lead at 85-59 en route to their second win in row.
Canizares finished with 22 points while Williams made 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for his second triple-double.
