PASA VP speaker in swimming seminar

MANILA, Philippines - Local swimming sports officials have been invited as speakers and moderators in the “Sports Reality Seminar” slated March 21-22 at the Asian Institute of Management Conference Center on Benavides St., Legaspi Village, Makati.

Ramon Roque Jr., vice president of the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association and deputy secretary general of Congress, will be the moderator of the two-day seminar which aims to introduce to coaches, athletes as well as their parents tested concepts and strategies they can apply on the club, school, national, Southeast Asian, Asian and Olympic level.

Lawyer Maria Luz Arzaga Mendoza, a former national swimmer, will discuss eligibility rules of the FINA, the international governing body for swimming.

The seminar will have as main speaker renowned Canadian-based Filipino coach Wilfred Arzaga, an internationally-acclaimed swimming mentor who has coached in Canada during the last 40 years.

The seminar, organized by RP Swim League, will discuss practical issues on the club system, grassroots and elite level, science of recovery and others of special interest to parents, coaches and their athletes.

RP Swim League is headed by former national swimmer Susan Papa, an accredited member of PASA.

Arzaga, a national swimmer who competed in the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, began coaching in 1967 and continues to the present as head coach of the CREST Swim Team in Canada.

He is a member of the Canadian Swimming Coaches Association, the Ontario Swimming Coaches Association and the American Swimming Coaches Association.

CREST swimmers have set 24 age group records in Ontario and three national records in Canada and the club has sent swimmers to the Canadian Olympic trials, World Cup and World Championships.
