-

MANILA, Philippines - A battle royale for the P300,000 top prize looms between stakes race champions Empire King and Don Enrico when the gates open for the 2009 Philracom-sponsored 1,500m Amethyst-II stakes race today at the San Lazaro Leisure and Business Park (SLLP) in Carmona, Cavite.

The other two runners capable of pulling off an upset victory are Manhattan and Native Land.

The runner-up will take home P112,500 while the third and fourth placers will get P62,000 and P25,000, respectively. The breeder of the winning horse takes P15,000.

Supporting today’s main event is the Charity Stakers Race dubbed as the “Councilor Maca Asistio Cup 1 and 2” for the benefit of the scholars of Bawat Isa Mahalaga Inc., in cooperation with Philracom and the Manila Jockey Club Inc. A total of P300,000 each in pot money is up for grabs for the first-fourth placers.

The racing extravaganza is aired live both on Sky Cable Channel 113 and Destiny Cable Channel 80.

“I wish to invite the bayang karerista to witness the favorite horses fighting for top honors. I would like to thank Philracom headed by its chairman Jose Ferdinand Rojas-II for their continued support to MJC, and to the racing fans for their continued patronage of our racing programs,” said MJC chairman and president Alfonso Reyno Jr.

Meanwhile, MJC will host on March 15 the P1.2-million Philracom “Commissioners’ Cup” open to local horses four years old and above.

Declaration is scheduled on March 3. Breeders prize for the winning horse is P50,000.
