Angping goes after beer joints at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex

- Joey Villar -

The Philippine Sports Commission is looking at generating funds by turning some of the properties it owns into income-generating business establishments.

PSC chair Harry Angping yesterday said they would go after the beer joints located at the side of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex track and field oval on Adriatico St. extension and turn it to wholesome establishments like coffee shops, restaurants, sports and drug stores.

“We would like to remove the bad image of the PSC and get maximum utilization of all PSC assets and convert them into profitable and fruitful use,” Angping yesterday told media on his first official day in office.

Angping said the beer joints owed the PSC a whopping P33 million and it’s time the agency get the dividends by replacing them with more profitable ventures.

“I’ve nothing personal against them, I’ll talk to them in a nice way. If I have to beg, I’ll beg but I think it’s about time they get out of there,” said Angping.

Angping is also keen on luring the University Athletic Association of the Philippines and the National Collegiate Athletic Association, to hold their basketball games at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum and the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

In fact, Angping said he would get the needed funds to repair air conditioning systems at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum and renovate the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Part of the plan is to also turn the building left by Brent School last year at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City into a commercial hostel similar to YMCA.

“We will generate money that would help the athletes and give additional income to the PSC,” said Angping.
