Dacanay cops MCC plum

MANILA, Philippines -- Steven James Dacanay held second seed Stephen Manzanero to a draw in the final round to top the MCC 1850 below standard chess tourney via tiebreak at the St. Francis Square in Mandaluyong City over the weekend.

The 11th-ranked Dacanay, a third year high school student of Adamson, actually finished tied for first with unrated Ernie Faeldonia with 4.5 points apiece. But Dacanay bagged the title with a superior tiebreak score and shared the combined prize of P4,500.

Dacanay also ruled the 16-under division.
