Tanpinco aims for title repeat in Southern tilt

The country’s top lady golfers and upcoming stars take center stage next week as they vie for top honors in the Southern Ladies golf tournament slated Feb. 5-7 at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City.

Anya Tanpinco goes for a title-repeat in the 46th staging of the annual tournament but the reigning back-to-back national champion is expected to have her hands full against her fellow teammates in the ICTSI golf stable, including Louise Manalo, who captured the Philippines Ladies Open crown recently.

Also in the fold is the duo’s teammate in the 2008 World Amateur squad Chihiro Ikeda, who is raring for a first crown in the season after a mediocre campaign in the RP Ladies Open she ruled last year.

Registration is ongoing with deadline set on Feb. 4, according to the organizing National Golf Association of the Phils. Fee is pegged at P2,000.

Tagaytay Highlands, Wack Wack, Manila Golf, Iligan Golf, Bacolod, Del Monte, Cebu CC, Valley Golf, Riviera, Sta. Elena, Alabang, Phil. Navy and Pamplona head the early entries in the event sponsored by WWWExpress-DHL (trophies), Hans Brumann, DPC Yellow Pages, Koresco Hotel (official hotel), Hole-in-One sponsor Mizuno and Hole sponsor Oroport Cargo Handling Services, PARASAT Cable TV and Four S Agritrade. Hans Brumann will give jewelry raffle worth P35,000.

Also on tap is the team competition, a four-to-play, three-to-count format event slated in the first two days along with the seniors tournament.

The individual competition will be played under the Molave scoring system while the team event will use the Stableford system (net of handicap).
