A stellar cast of 288 member-guest teams will slug it out for top honors in the Bill Shaw Classic beginning tomorrow with last year’s champion pair Tootsie de Jesus and Sammy Sy out to defend the crown at Wack Wack’s West Course.
The annual event, a 36-hole tournament spread over four days, is traditionally the first of a series of events lined up at the exclusive club held in honor of its founder Bill Shaw and presented by Mercedes-Benz and CATS Motors. It has been widely regarded by the golfing community as among the most prestigious events in the country where each team plays the best-ball format in the first day and aggregate in the second round.
Meanwhile, director Tommy Tan said that more hole-in-one as well as fun hole prizes have been added to this year’s event due to positive response of participants and sponsors.
They include an OSIM Massage chair on No. 2, a Rado watch on Nos. 7 and 12 and a Sharp French door ref on No. 16.
Two brand-new Mercedes-Benz C180s (Nos. 3 and 11) and a Mazda 3 car on No. 8 and a Dodge Journey on No. 14 are up for grabs for hole-in-one feats. Also staking prizes for aces on Nos. 8 and 14 are Rado Watch, Yamaha Golf Cart and Turf Co. Golf Cart.
“It’s going to be a fun-filled tournament for everybody,” said Tan, adding that the awards night will be capped by a raffle where another Mercedes-Benz C180 will be staked as grand prize.
