Bill Shaw Classic stakes Mercedes-Benz, Mazda for aces

Two brand-new Mercedes-Benz C180s and two Mazda cars will be staked for hole-in-one feats in the Bill Shaw Classic, Wack Wack Golf and Country Club’s signature tournament which fires off Jan. 21 at Wack Wack’s West Course.

A banner field of 288 member-guest teams is competing in the annual event ending Jan. 24 with each team playing the best-ball format on the first day and then the aggregate in the second round of the 36-hole tournament.

Club president Luis Tan and director Tommy Tan, chairman of the sports and games committee, said the ongoing renovation works on the East Course have not hampered preparations for the 20th staging of the event, ensuring another spirited battle for top honors and other fun-hole prizes.

Another Mercedes-Benz C180 will be raffled off during the awards night on Jan. 24.

Backing the event as major sponsors are Sharp Philippines, Montre-Watch Shop, GNC, Outback Steakhouse, Sta. Elena Properties, Inc., AOWA Electronics Philippines, Madrigal Bayot Development Corp., PLDT, Pacsports, Kart Plaza, Turf Co., Abub’s Cebuana Native Lechon, Sec. Leandro Mendoza, Asia Brewery, Saint Francis Square Development Corp. and The Plaza, Inc.

The other supporters are Schering Plough, Northern Island, Stradcom, VS&F, Duty Free Philippines, Paragon Trading, Unilever, Asia United Bank, Pagcor, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp., Unioil, Decopro Inc., Dynamic Sports, Peerless Products Manufacturing Corp., and Seaboard Insurance.

The M-Benz cars will be up for grabs on Nos. 3 and 11 while holes No. 8 and 14 offer the Mazda cars for aces. Also staking prizes for hole-in-one feats on Nos. 8 and 14 are Rado Watch, Yamaha Golf Cart and Turf Company Golf Cart.
