Tuason wins race with diesel car

SUBIC – Champion racer Mike Tuason forged a monumental feat following his big sweep recently in the championship round of the Philippine Touring Car Championship at the Subic International Raceway.

Tuason, the youngest son of racing legend Arthur Tuason, emerged the first driver ever to win a race on a diesel-powered Ford Focus of the Tuason Racing Team powered by Ford, Goodyear Racing, Standard Insurance, Bioactiv, Petron Diesel Max, Petron Ultron, Rota, Fremuff, Aguila Auto Glass, K&N, Timezone, OMP, Starbright Body Kits, Dupont, Bilstein, FCP, H&R, Unichip, Tradeshow, Winner and media partners Mr. & Ms., Speedlab, NU 107, Business World and C! Magazine.

He started second on the grid, clocking 1:34.52 in the qualifying time trials against gasoline-propelled rival cars, but pulled the win despite the odds of running on a stock engine and a disadvantageous weight penalty of 300 kilos over Joward Policarpio and Jeff Borja who were both running modified Civics.

He capture second overall in the Group 3 division this season.

“We really were quite ecstatic about winning using the diesel race car, a lot of people said that this can never be done, but we did it,” said Tuason, who’s also the team’s manager and operations head of the Tuason Racing School.

At the start of the season, Tuason Racing School raised a lot of eyebrows when it decided to race the diesel car this year. Though it was expected to run on experimental mode, the Ford Focus Diesel posted second and third place finishes to the satisfaction of the team

“The team was really against the odds, but Ford Focus TDCi has proven once again its winning heritage and great performance especially in debut year. It won fair and square, a result that exceeded our expectations,”said TRS president and multi-awarded race car driver JP Tuason.

“And Mike not only performed well on the track but did an excellent job managing and preparing the car as well,” he added.
