PBA board to discuss BK transfer
PBA board chairman Joaqui Trillo said the reported move of Air21 to transfer its franchise to Burger King is subject to the approval of the league board and he has called a meeting Monday to discuss the issue.
“I called the meeting to discuss the concerns of the governors. Nothing has been filed, no papers, nothing formal but it’s been all over the papers. I want to hear their sides and get the consensus of the group,” Trillo told The STAR.
If Air21 is indeed thinking on transferring the franchise to Burger King, Trillo wants the board to study the papers of the fast-food chain.
“The governors have their concerns. Is Burger King really owned by the Lina Group? Who are the owners? There might be conflict of interest. There are many ways to skin the cat,” said Trillo.
Most of the board members apparently question Air21’s plan, doubting if Air21 owner Bert Lina really controls Burger Kings’ majority stock.
“They have to show solid evidence that it is indeed Mr. Lina who owns Burger King,” said a league governor who requested anonymity.
“Everything must be in order, and we cannot simply approve it (change) just because they say so,” another governor said.
