Hope, 2 others show way in Shakey's volley

LIPA CITY – Defending champion Hope Christian School and two other fancied teams beat their respective rivals to stay unbeaten in the National Capital Region phase of the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League here over the weekend.

The HCS spikers overwhelmed Tiwalan Christian Academy, 25-11, 25-15, to notch their second straight victory (Bracket A) in the elims of the meet backed by Petron Treats, Toby’s Sports, Dunkin Donuts and Mikasa.

Also posting their second straight wins were University of Santo Tomas (2-0) in Bracket C and De la Salle Lipa (2-0) in Bracket D.

National Youth team veterans Alyssa Valdez, Maru Banaticla and Aleona Santiago combined for 18 kills as UST downed Canossa Academy, 25-11, 25-10; De la Salle Lipa defeated Unida Christian College, 25-7, 25-8; and AUF downed University of Perpetual Help-Laguna,25-19, 25-22.

In the other Division A match, Angeles University Foundation banked on the trio of Arah Galang, Kristine Sangil and Mariel Sinamban to beat University of Perpetual Help-Laguna, 25-19, 25-22, for a rousing start in Bracket D of Division A.

In Division B (Developmental Group), Valenzuela Nat’l HS recovered from a slow start to defeat Rizal High School, 25-18, 18-25, 25-19; U. P. Integrated School whipped PAREF Rosehill, 25-18, 25-9, and Imus Institute downed St. Scholastica Marikina, 25-19, 25-18, in the other games.
