Athletes, NSA offices moved to Philsports

-

Several NSA (national sports association) offices and athletes have moved out of the Rizal Memorial center in Manila to the Philsports Complex in Pasig City as renovation work on the old sports complex started last Monday.

Sports commissioner and PSC executive director Fr. Vic Uy, SVD, yesterday said only few NSA offices remain inside the Rizal venue with majority now at the Philsports where the bulk of the national athletes are training.

These NSAs hold offices on the second floor of the administrative building, including golf, boxing, table tennis, sepak takraw, archery and basketball.

“In fact, golf left just early this morning (yesterday) along with other NSAs for Philsports,” Uy said.

Uy, however, clarified that boxing was an exception since it is temporarily holding office near the track and field oval.

“The boxing gym will be demolished and will be replaced by a two-storey building that will house the boxer’s quarters on the first floor and the gym in the second,” said Uy.

While the construction, estimated to cost P13 million, is ongoing, the RP fighters, headed by World Cup gold medalist Harry Tañamor, will have their training in Baguio City.

The PSC actually started transferring some NSAs as early as June last year after Brent’s contract with the PSC expired. – Joey Villar
