The country’s top breeders will be up against the world’s best when the World Slasher Invitational 8-cock Derby is held Jan. 19, 20, 21, 22 and 24 with a record field expected at the Araneta Coliseum.
Sponsored by Univet Thunderbird and Sagupaan Complexor 3000, the event attracts top local bets and international breeders from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Guam, Germany and Japan.
The bi-annual cockfight’s first leg drew the most number of entries in the derby’s history with the upcoming event tipped to establish new record with more foreign entries expected to compete.
These include Roger Roberts of Georgia (World Slasher champion 2001), Ray Alexander of Alabama, Mike Formosa of Hawaii, Joe Stanfield of California, Speedy Gonzales of California, Jessie Sevilla of Florida, Roy Miñoza and Ric Cabullos of Canada, Vic Diez of Guam, Noriaki Morita of Japan and Thomas Mishkosh of Germany.
Ito Ynares and Patrick Antonio, on the other hand, will lead the local contingent that includes Biboy Enriquez, Boyet Joson, Dicky Lim, Boy Marzo, Nene Abello, Cito Abello, Peping Cojuangco, Esting Teopaco, Jet and Joel Fernando, Honey Yu, the Madlambayan brothers and Rudy Salud.
