Paeng begs off from top bowling post
Paeng Nepomuceno has politely declined an offer for him to run as president of the Philippine Bowling Congress.
“I am flattered that I am being considered. But I am not interested and I have to decline,” he said yesterday in a text message from Hong Kong where he is conducting a tri-level coaching seminar.
Nepomuceno’s name was mentioned as a possible candidate for the PBC elections by outgoing president Steve Hontiveros who wanted to push a common candidate.
“A large part of my time is spent in training, preparation and traveling to international competitions and traveling as international ambassador for bowling,” said Nepomuceno.
“I also lend my efforts to have bowling recognized as an Olympic sport. I also accredit coaches and it takes the bulk of my time. Presently I really have no time,” he added.
Hontiveros had originally planned to endorse Philip Rillos as his successor, but Bong Coo, the PBC sec-gen and a champion bowler herself, wants someone else – Nitoy Tamayo.
“He would unify the sport because he is our hero in bowling,” Hontiveros, the secretary-general of the Philippine Olympic Committee, said the other day. – Abac Cordero
