Emil Perez carded a 12-under-par net 60 to win the overall title in the three-day Chairman’s Cup annual tournament of the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club played at the Masters and Legends courses in Carmona, Cavite over the weekend.
Perez, a 17-handicapper, actually assembled nines of 38-39 for a 77 while Korean and fellow member Kim Jong-Min carded a 69 to claim the best gross score in the three-day event which drew a record number of 600 participants.
“I was completely awed that a lot of our members played in the Chairman’s Cup. It only shows that through proper planning and handling of tournaments, these guys will show up and compete. I would like to express my gratitude to them for their continuous support,” said Southwoods chairman Bob Sobrepeña.
Theody Pascual (Class A), Manolo Agojo (Class B), Lito Ayson (Class C), Eduardo Santos (Class D), Eugene Villanueva (Class E), Abhee Tayao (Ladies 1), Faye Celones (Ladies 2), Fred Carandang (Seniors 1), Mario Badillo (Seniors 2) and Iggy Clavecilla (Guest/Sponsor) won in their respective divisions.
Golforce Inc., Mejore, Dynamic Sports, Mizuno, Warbird Security and Investigation Agency, Starmakers, and Sabah Malaysian Borneo Tourism were major sponsors while Mitsubishi Motors, Diamond Motors, Royal Caribbean International, Baron Travel Corp., Korean Air, Kart Plaza, The Turf Co., Pacsports, Wilson Sports, Coca-Cola, SYM Motorbikes, Dynamic Sports, Mit-Air Sales and Mizuno were hole-in-one sponsors.
Since no one made an ace, a Mitsubishi Lancer GLS, an Alaskan cruise with business class tickets for two, two golf carts, several vacation packages to Boracay/El Nido/Baguio, two iron sets, a bedroom showcase and a split type, heavy-duty air-condition were raffled off.
